Here's an interesting article from mashable.com: http://mashable.com/2011/01/03/virtual-classroom/  that describes how online learning may be used to enhance classroom learning.

In #5, there is a video, The Internet Empowers Self-Motivated Learners, that describes Bill Gates reading "library carts of books." He recommends books as well as online videos like Teach12, to buy, and Academic Earth, http://academicearth.org/, free courses. He reads 2-3 hours and watches 1 and a half hours of online video courses a day. He also writes the Gates Notes, http://www.thegatesnotes.com/Learning/, with little book reports on the books he reads. Gates discusses interesting ideas on remedial efforts of schools and colleges and 300-400 page textbooks. Self-Motivated learners may find that khanacademy.org tutorials coupled with set of assessment tests to identify their strengths and weaknesses work better than taking the entire course again.

Item #6 points to role of online learning to enhance classroom learning. The school library website is a great place to see carefully selected online tutorials, lectures, and resources.
